LatinX Diversity Officers in Higher Education: Capacitating Cultural Values as Champions of Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion

Dr. Chavez-Haroldson’s study explores the lived experiences of Latina (LatinX) diversity officers working in higher education institutions, leading and championing equity, diversity, and inclusion. The participants (co-researchers) in this qualitative study identified core cultural values as key elements of their leadership. An Interpretive Phenomenological Analysis was applied during interviews and focus groups.

WEX is always interested in learning from successful writers about their process. Here, Dr. Chavez-Harodson shares a few pointers:

What advice would you give to others writing a dissertation?

Take the time to fully understand your academic institution’s formatting, citation, and reference requirements. Double-check to make sure all your in-text citations are accurately identified in the reference section. Include your authentic self (voice) in your writing.

What are your next steps in your academic/professional career?

I am exploring the next chapter in my life: to further develop my consulting business or to seek an administrative position.
