Incorporating Psychological Trauma into ADHD Differentials: A Pilot Study of Primary Care Providers’ Perspectives
This study explored primary care providers’ assessment and management process for ADHD, including how psychological trauma is incorporated and barriers that primary care providers experience. Interviews were conducted with board certified general pediatricians based in the U.S. This research identified 10 superordinate, or shared, themes throughout the interviews.
WEX is always interested in learning from successful writers about their process. Here, Amber Nipper shares a few pointers:
How has WEX professional coaching/editing support promoted your academic and/or professional success?
WEX feedback gave me the confidence I needed, and when I was nearing the end of my dissertation, to keep going and complete it! Their detailed assistance and quick responses allowed me to work through any necessary changes quickly and effectively!
What advice would you give to others writing a dissertation?
Get it done! There were many times where I felt overwhelmed causing me to take long pauses in work. Once I got through the next step I always said “wow I wish I would have just done that. It was not as bad as I anticipated.” Whether you sit at your computer and write one sentence, talk to a friend about it, or complete a full section, just make time for it multiple times a week and keep moving!
What are your next steps in your academic/professional career?
This month I will begin a postdoctoral fellowship at a private practice in Oklahoma completing psychological assessments and therapy for children and adolescents, supervising practicum students, and providing consultation services as needed. My interests include working with children and adolescents, neurodevelopmental disorders, and psychological trauma.
